At Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, we are specialists in the latest arthroscopic surgery techniques. Arthroscopy, or arthroscopic surgery, is the less-invasive alternative to open surgery for treatment of interior joint damage, such as ACL tears or torn cartilage.
In a regular open surgery to repair a joint injury, a surgeon must open up a patient to expose the joint and damaged area. Although open surgery is effective and sometimes the best option, depending on the injury, arthroscopy sometimes represents a better approach.
When performing arthroscopic surgery on a joint, the surgeon makes only small, quarter inch incisions. One of these is for a scope that serves as a camera for the doctor, and the others for the smaller surgical instruments used to perform the appropriate repair. By eliminating the need to fully open a patient, arthroscopy can provide a shorter recovery time with decreased pain and less visible scarring.
At Advanced Orthopaedics and Sports medicine, we have years of experience and expertise in performing arthroscopic surgery. Please contact us for more information or to answer any questions you may have about this treatment option. We would be more than happy to answer your questions.
